February 15, 2021Ashes will be distributed at our Masses at 8:00AM, 9:00AM and 12Noon and at an evening Mass at 7:30PM.
Ashes will also be distributed at a Prayer Service at 3:00PM.
The prayer used by the priest in giving the ashes follows two forms:
(1) Repent and believe in the Gospel and
(2) Remember, you are dust and to dust you will return.
The ashes remind us of two things: first, God made us out of nothing, like the ashes, and without His love we would be nothing at all; and second, that we should “burn up” things that separate us from God’s love, big or small things, serious sins but also smaller things like anger or jealousy or unkindness, things which the Lord wants us to “make like the ashes.” May Lent be truly a holy time for us all.
PLEASE NOTE:
Because of CoVid restrictions, we will have the following procedure for the distribution of ashes this year:- The priest will say the prayer for the giving of ashes at the altar once, rather than individually.
- Please come up the aisle as instructed, keeping the proper six feet social distancing as marked with the blue tape.
- After the priest has placed the ashes on your forehead, please leave by the side aisle to avoid crossing over other people.
- Only those in good health should come to receive ashes.
