LOOKING AHEAD—PARISH “BLOCK PARTY”—SEPTEMBER 30th
As you know, unfortunately we were not able to have our Family Feast at the end of June because of the threatening weather forecasts.
We are planning to have a “block party” on Saturday, September 30, with food, tag sale, children’s events, etc. in front of our church and school. We plan to begin at 2PM. Our regular Saturday night Mass will be celebrated at 5PM. After the Mass we will have the Procession of the statue of St. Theresa. We selected this day because it is the eve of the Feastday of St. Theresa on October 1.
We particularly encourage you to inform alumni and former parishioners of our church about this event. Our alumni will be able to have a tour of our school and see the great work that is being done there. We will be happy TO “WELCOME THEM HOME.”
Plan to be with us on September 30 as we honor our holy patroness St. Theresa and as we continue to make, as our motto says, “St. Theresa Strong.”
THE CARDINAL’S APPEAL
Dear Parishioners and Friends of St. Theresa’s Parish:
The 2023 Cardinal’s Appeal is now underway in our parish and throughout the Archdiocese. I am writing to you to request your generous help in this year’s Appeal, which, as you know, is the major fund-raising effort of the Archdiocese to support the pastoral, educational and social programs of the Church of New York.
Your help in the Appeal will certainly be thankfully received by Cardinal Dolan as he continues to serve all of us in the Archdiocese of New York.
I do not need to tell you how important the Appeal is. The Appeal helps to support the services of our Archdiocese to help countless numbers of unmarried women who are pregnant and who have nowhere else to go and no one else to turn to. Without your help in the Appeal they could easily fall into the temptation of having an abortion. Your Appeal offering helps them to bring healthy babies into the world and then either to raise them on their own or to arrange for an adoptive home. When you help the Appeal, you are helping unborn children
Our aim this year is to ask every parishioner and every family to make an Appeal offering. I am well aware that many of you are facing financial hardships, as so many other Americans are facing at this time. But I earnestly ask you to make the special sacrifice of making your Appeal offering. We ask every person to help us reach our goal of $53,600. Let your Appeal offering be your way of thanking God for His gifts to you and of your sharing your gifts with those in need particularly during the Holy Season of Lent. Your sacrifice in the Appeal will represent your love for the Lord Jesus and for the “least of His brethren.”
I am most grateful for your love for the Church—the Church in our Archdiocese and the Church right here in St. Theresa’s Parish. Please pray for the success of the Appeal, in our parish and throughout our Archdiocese.
Sincerely in Our Lord,
Father Thomas B. Derivan
You will find below a form you can use for your Appeal offering, if you did not receive one or misplaced it. You may place this form and your offering in an envelope and return it to church on Sunday by putting it in the collection or you may drop it off or send it to the Rectory. We will forward it to the Appeal Office.
You may also wish to make your donation by going to the Cardinal’s Appeal website (www.cardinalsappeal.org) and going to “Donate.” If you direct your gift to St. Theresa Parish, we will direct it to the Appeal Office.
