FRIDAY AFTER ASH WEDNESDAY - Isa 58:1-9a; Ps 51; Matt 9:14-14

How, then, do we "return"to God this Lent?  The psalmist approaches God with a humble and contrite heart and asks for mercy, open to receiving what God wants to give.  The Dave Matthews Band performs a song titled "Mercy" that includes this comforting refrain: "I want to give you what  ou need."  I've often sensed God speaking those words to me in prayer whtn I've resisted opening my heart.  Our merciful, generous, compassionate God desires to heal our wounds and make us whole.

The invitation awaits each of us this Lent.  With trust, let us turn towards the One who wants to give us what we need.
